Upgrading Problems (General)
Problems Experienced While Upgrading
A. Users logging into the system while the Upgrade program is running.
The solution is to exit all users out of the system and restart the Upgrade program.
B. Damaged, missing or corrupted data files.
If data files are missing or data so badly damaged that the Upgrade program cannot read it, it will be necessary to restore a backup.
Problems Experienced After Upgrading
If CAPITAL reports a problem (usually when starting) after an upgrade has occurred, the following should be checked:
A. Data files have been mixed up.
The most likely cause of this problem is that some but not all company files have been transported from one system to another. This can occur if your copy, back-up or zip software has been set to duplicate changed files only.
Always ensure that the complete company directory is backed up when moving files.
To rectify the problem do the following:
1. Click the Start button under Windows.
2. Select Run from the menu.
3. Type the program path followed by Upgrade /RESTORE.

Note: Be sure to change c:\capital\ to the correct path where your CAPITAL program files are located.
4. When the above is finished, click on the Start Button again.
5. Select Run from the menu.
6. Type the program path followed by Instwin /A (or type Install /A if you are running a version earlier than Series 7.)

Note: Be sure to change c:\capital\ to the correct path where your CAPITAL program files are located.
Unless your company files have become corrupted, etc., doing the above should bring all data files in line with the most current version.
B. Program files have become mixed up.
You should also check that the date of the UPGRADE.EXE file is the same as the date of your CAPWIN.EXE (Series 7) or CAP.EXE (earlier version) file. If you have different dates then you have mixed different versions together and this will also create similar problems.
Program versions can become mixed up if an attempt is made to install a new version while users were still running the application software. Windows may not be able to replace/update all program files if one or more of the program files are "open".
For Series 7 these files should all have the same date stamp:
CAPWIN.EXE
INSTWIN.EXE
UPGRADE.EXE
VB.EXE
For earlier versions these files should all have the same date stamp:
CAP.EXE
INSTALL.EXE
UPGRADE.EXE
VB.EXE
