CAPITAL Slow Opening Files
If you have CAPITAL GL Controller installed do the following:

2. Click on Clean Databases
3. Click on Proceed
Also perform a clean operation in CAPITAL.
1. Start Installation Workshop or the INSTALL program.
2. Select Toolbox|Database Maintenance
3. Click on OK.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 for each company you use.
CAPITAL Slow After Deleting Records
Perform a Database Maintenance operation. See the section above for specific details.
CAPITAL Performance is Sluggish
These issues can affect the performance of CAPITAL:
When
running with Multi-user Fast Mode unticked or set to "No". Under CAPITAL 2.7 Multi-user Fast
Mode can be activated by starting INSTALL and selecting Behaviour Defaults under the Install menu. For
CAPITAL Series 7, select from the menu Install|Advanced|Special Options.
Ticking
the Multi-user Fast Mode setting ensures that the system performs at peak performance and utilizes available
hard disk system caches. Activating this option may decrease reliability on an unstable PC or network.
However, this option should only be used as a temporary measure until the computer or network problem
is resolved.
If
the serial number, batch number, size/colour/style/lot and special property tracking system is heavily
used, performance can degrade over time. A Database Maintenance should be performed on a regular basis
to restore performance. See the instructions above.
Doing
a Database Maintenance on a regular basis is recommended. It should be done in CAPITAL Office and the
general ledger. Do it at least once a month. If users have deleted a large number of records (e.g., a
system batch from the GL) do the Database Maintenance afterwards to restore performance.
Performance
can be affected by having a very large number of global customer special price rules in the system. This
is the case if adding stock items on sales orders, quotations and invoices is slow. Reduce the number
of rules or reorganise the pricing system so as to use less global rules.
Additional Performance Considerations For CAPITAL 2.7
Check
that you have sufficient conventional memory in your system. Press [ALT]-[0] and examine the free pool
setting. There should ideally be 100K or more of memory available. 50K or less can reduce system performance
by half. If free memory is very low, try allocating 2MB or more memory to the application. Check your
property settings and leave memory allocations set to "auto".
If CAPITAL has less than 100K of memory available, you should allocate either EMS or XMS memory for its
use.
If it takes several minutes to load CAPITAL or performance continues to be slow, execute the following statement before starting CAPITAL:
SET CAPMEM/=DT250000
Place this statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT or if you are using Windows ME, place it in a line above CAP.EXE inside a batch file used for starting CAPITAL.
