For systems running CAPITAL 2.73, a utility called CAPSCFIX.EXE is automatically installed on the current CAPITAL 2.73 CD update. The utility will automatically convert existing .SCR and .CFS files into the new formats for Series 7.
If you are running an early version of Series 7 and wish to retain the existing screens, run the CAPSCFIX.EXE program BEFORE the UPGRADE program is run. CAPSCFIX scans all program directories looking for .SCR and .CFS files. If it detects that matching .SCW or .CFW file do not yet exist, it will create them.
If you run the UPGRADE program before you run CAPSCFIX.EXE, the upgrade will automatically place new stock, customer, supplier, job card and hire sheet screen files in all upgraded directories. These are the "factory default" screens. This is normal when upgrading from CAPITAL 2.73 and a previous version of Series 7 was not previously installed. As described in the cross-grade instructions, users will need to add back user defined fields onto their Windows screens.
If you accidentally run the UPGRADE program before CAPSCFIX.EXE is executed, simply move the files:
STAUX000.SCR
CUAUX000.SCR
SUAUX000.SCR
into a temporary directory.
Then run the CAPSCFIX.EXE program. This will create these files:
STAUX000.SCW
CUAUX000.SCW
SUAUX000.SCW
The above files will be based on the original version of Series 7. Keep in mind that if you convert existing SCR files to the SCW format, some tweaking and re-alignment of fields will be required. For technical reasons relating to rounding error, the conversion process cannot translate the old screen format into the new format perfectly. However, the translation will be close enough that minor adjustments made inside the Screen Builder should be trivial to perform.
