Recalculating Accounts Very Frequent
When accessing customer and supplier accounts, particularly during the beginning of a new month, the message "recalculating account..." may be displayed very frequently. This causes a delay when viewing account details.
This is caused by network users who have dates/times out of step with other users on the same network.
CAPITAL will recalculate an account if the ageing has been upset. This can occur when users log into CAPITAL using an earlier date than the previous one used. Normally this should never occur, but if you are accessing CAPITAL on a network, the clock settings of the various network PC's may vary by one day or more.
CAPITAL automatically and instantaneously ages accounts forward in time but cannot immediately age accounts backwards in time. If CAPITAL determines that it is necessary to restore the aging from a period backward in time, every transaction under that account must be recalculated to determine its balances for that period. This causes a delay.
Aging backward in time is necessary when a user wishes to view an account's balances and a previous user had viewed those same balances in a future period. This should not be a "normal" occurrence.
The solution is to correct the clock dates and times for all users accessing CAPITAL. A good way to ensure that clocks do not go out of sync with each other is to synchronies each local PC's clock with that of the server computer. This can be done by executing the NET TIME command in a batch file when local computers start. For more information on the syntax of the NET command consult the Microsoft Windows networking documentation.
