Performance Issues (Software)
Database Maintenance Operations
A Database Maintenance should be performed periodically on each company you use to maintain satisfactory performance.
Doing a Database Maintenance with CAPITAL Series 7
1. Start Installation Workshop.
2. Enter your password if applicable.
3. From the menu select Toolbox|Database Maintenance.
4. Click on OK.
Repeat the above procedure for each company you operate.
Doing a Database Maintenance with CAPITAL 2.7
From the Quick Access Menu type: M O I
Press [ENTER]
Enter your password if applicable.
From the menu select Toolbox|Database Maintenance.
Press [ENTER] until the maintenance operation begins.
The above procedures should also be repeated for CAPITAL GL Controller if you use the general ledger:
Doing a Database Maintenance with CAPITAL GL Controller
1. Start CAPITAL GL Controller.
2. Select from the menu select Maintenance|Database Maintenance|Clean/Repair All Databases.
3. Click on the Clean Databases radio button.
4. Click on Proceed.
The above procedures will help resolve the following issues:
System
very slow opening files (accessing new areas or first starting)
System
very slow working with serial numbers, batch numbers and other special properties.
Fast Mode Operation
Performance may also be vastly improved by selecting "Activate fast mode" under some versions of Windows and on some networks. To do this:
Activating Multi-user Fast Mode on CAPITAL Series 7
1. Start Installation Workshop.
2. Enter your password if applicable.
3. From the menu select Install|Advanced|Special Options.
4. Ensure that the Activate Fast Mode check box is ticked.
5. Click on the Finished Button.
6. From the menu select File|Exit and when prompted to save changes click on Yes.
Activating Multi-user Fast Mode on CAPITAL 2.7
1. From the Quick Access Menu type: M O I
2. Press [ENTER]
3. Enter your password if applicable.
4. From the menu select Install|Behaviour Defaults.
5. Press [ENTER] until the line Activate multi-user fast mode is reached.
6. Enter Y here.
7. Move back to the Company menu and select Save... and Exit.
Setting the above option will often improve all operations relating to saving information in your database to the hard disk of your PC or server.
Exporting Transaction History
Certain operations can also be improved, such as customer and supplier statement runs and account recalculations, by exporting old transaction data from the system. See your main CAPITAL on-line help for more information on how to export transactions.
Very Slow Retrieving Stock Item Details
If performance is slow retrieving stock items when entering invoices, sales orders and quotations, this may be due to having an excessively large number of global special price rules in the system. CAPITAL must scan every global price rule in the system for each item entered on a transaction.
For more information on better structuring your price rule information to improve performance consult the on-line help in CAPITAL under the Customer Special Pricing section.
Flushing Empty Records (CAPITAL 2.7)
On older revision of CAPITAL 2.7 it may be helpful to flush empty transaction records from the system that have accumulated over a long period of time. (In later versions of CAPITAL empty records are automatically flushed from the system.) The problem can manifest itself as taking a long time to open new invoice transactions. The procedure is as follows:
1. From the Quick Access Menu type: M O I
2. Press [ENTER]
3. Enter your password if applicable.
4. From the menu select Transfer|Export Transactions|Customer Invoicing.
5. In From enter: 01/01/80
6. In To enter: 01/01/80
7. Leave Include Opens set to No
8. Set Remove From System to Yes by typing Y here.
9. Set Clean System Files to Yes by typing Y here.
10. In File name enter OLDFILES and press [ENTER]
