OS Error 5
An OS error 5 may also indicate that the file is read-only and CAPITAL cannot access/write to it. All CAPITAL data must be set to read/write. CAPITAL always creates and sets its data files to read/write access, but this setting may be changed by back-up software. For example, restoring data from a CD-ROM will cause CAPITAL data files to be set to read only and CAPITAL will then report that it cannot open (find) or read (write) them.
To deactivate read-only attributes do the following:
1. Start Windows Explorer
2. Move to the CAPITAL directory. Be sure the \CAPITAL directory is open and selected.
3. Choose Edit|Select All from the Explorer menu.
4. Choose File|Properties from the Explorer menu.
5. Ensure that the Attributes: Read-Only is unticked
6. Click OK
The above commands remove the read-only attribute of all files in the \CAPITAL and \CAPITAL\DATA directories.
You may also experience OS error 5 as a warning if you attempt to
do something that would be potentially dangerous--such as trying to
import a data file that has already been opened by CAPITAL or another application.
