Network Time Synchronization

In order to run CAPITAL and avoid time/date clashes on a network, time and dates should be synchronized among all computers. Your computer server or the computer where CAPITAL resides should be set as your master timekeeper. That is, the computer that all other machines will take their time from.

On each computer a command line will change the computer clock to match up with the timekeeper computer.

NET TIME \\(timekeeper computer name) /SET /YES

The NET program is usually in the \Windows folder for Windows 95 and 98 computers and \Windows\System32 for Windows NT. For example, you are using a Windows 95/98 computer and the server computer is called HOST the command line would look like this:

C:\WINDOWS\NET TIME \\HOST /SET /YES

You can put that command in one of two places depending on how the machine is used. For most cases it can go in the Startup Group so that the time is updated when the computer is started. You can create a new shortcut in the Startup Group with the command line as shown above and the 'Close on exit' option on. If the computer is run continuously then put the same shortcut in the Task Scheduler and set it to run once per day.
