CAPITAL 2.7 to Series 7 Cross-Compatibility Issues
It is possible to operate CAPITAL Office 2.7 and Series 7 simultaneously on the same network accessing the same company database in most situations up to version 7.1. Certain features are, however, specific to Series 7 and are not backward compatible with version 2.7.
It is not recommended to operate the DOS version of CAPITAL with CAPITAL 7.2
The DOS version of CAPITAL is incompatible with CAPITAL 7.3
Compatibility issues relating to CAPITAL 7.1 are outlined below:
Box Quantity Invoicing
Box quantity invoicing has changed in Series 7.
If
you have been invoicing in box quantities through version 2.7 you cannot continue to invoice or enter
new transactions or edit transaction after Series 7 is installed.
The following conditions must be adhered to if you will be running version 2.7 and Series 7.
Invoices,
quotations and sales orders cannot be entered through version 2.7 once Series 7 is installed. All new
transactions must be entered in Series 7.
Any
transactions entered before installing Series 7 that need to be edited must be edited using version
2.7.
All
transactions entered after installing Series 7 must be edited using Series 7.
Stock
sales analysis reporting must be done using version 2.7 for all transactions entered before Series
7 was installed.
Stock
sales analysis reporting must be done using Series 7 for all transactions entered after Series
7 is installed.
Dimensional Pricing
Dimensional pricing features are not supported in version 2.7. If you decide to use them in Series 7 you cannot edit any transactions entered using Series 7.
If
you edit transactions in version 2.7, that were created in Series 7, and that incorporate the dimensional
pricing features of Series 7, those transactions will be corrupted.
General Transaction Editing Guidelines
Transactions entered in version 2.7 of CAPITAL can be edited by Series 7 (except where indicated above). However, transactions entered into Series 7 should not be edited using version 2.7. Series 7 transactions include enhancements such as support for larger transaction quantities, extra address lines, etc. This information may be lost or will change in unexpected ways if edited using earlier versions of CAPITAL.
Record Special Charges
This feature has been superceded in Series 7 and is no longer supported. CAPITAL now provides up to four miscellaneous charge categories; freight, and three other user defined charges.

Stock Receipts
Series 7 records the exchange rate, freight charge and supplier transaction that was created when stock receipts are totalled. If stock receipts are retotalled under CAPTIAL 2.7 this information may be lost or erased.
Service Manager
Series 7 manages extra expense related information when assigning supplier invoicies to job cards. This includes a 30 character reference and a cost centre code. If these assignments are entered in Series 7 and then edited in CAPITAL 2.7, the additional reference and cost centre information will be cleared.
