Network Installation Guidelines
CAPITAL places demands on your network that you may not experience with word processing or spreadsheeting software. These include:
Heavy use of the hard drive
Network file and record locking
The opening of large number of files simultaneously
If you can optimise your network for enhancing performance in these areas, the performance of CAPITAL will increase.
A large cache will give you your greatest speed boost. The more memory you can place in your server, the better.
Network Paths
Installing accounting software can be different from installing other types of software on a network. Users often go wrong when installing accounting software by limiting the sub-directories CAPITAL may access, not specifying correct path information so that data files can be located, and restricting access rights to database and temporary files so that they can not be properly updated or deleted.
If possible, give your workstation complete access to the drive that CAPITAL is located on (especially if you are not a network expert) as this will reduce the risk of you doing something wrong. You must also give CAPITAL complete file access to its directory and all directories below it.
If you are re-mapping network drives then be aware that CAPITAL cannot reside in a root directory. The following re-map command would cause problems:
NET USE N:\\HOST\ACCOUNTS
if the shared path to the facility "ACCOUNTS" was C:\CAPITAL. If you don't wish to allow access to an entire drive, place the CAPITAL sub-directory inside another sub-directory first.
