Modem Dialing
If you have a local modem connected to your computer and sharing an existing phone line, you can use CAPITAL to dial telephone numbers for you.
Simply select the telephone number you wish to dial using the arrow keys and press the Dial button (or just press enter) to begin dialing.
To cancel the dial sequence just press enter again.
In
most cases you should be able to pick up the telephone during the dial sequence. However, if you experience
difficulties, wait until the phone had dialed the number and the other end is ringing, before picking
up the phone.
The modem dial facility tries to search out any user fields that may contain telephone information. (See the Screen Builder for more information on user fields.) CAPITAL will consider a user field to be a phone number field if it contains at least one number, and at least part of the user field name has "PHONE" or "MOBILE" in it.
Hints & Tips
CAPITAL only supports direct dialing on COM1 or COM2. The default setting is COM2 but CAPITAL will try to dial COM1 if it gets no response from COM2.
If your modem does not respond to CAPITAL check that your hardware port setting is set to a speed that matches your modem. Under Windows see the communications section of the Windows control panel.
You will receive a warning message if the modem is turned off, not properly connected to the computer, etc.
If you must "dial out" before you can dial a number on the list, you can specify a prefix string to be placed in front of each phone number you dial. For more information on this topic see the INSTALLATION Workshop program, and the settings under Special Options.
