Converting Your Version 2.7 Screens
When you first start Series 7 and access stock, customer and supplier screens, any changes you have made to them in Version 2.7 will not be visible under Windows. You can, however, modify the Series 7 screens the same way you originally changed your Version 2.7 screens.
It should be noted that due to scaling issues, slightly less information may fit on a single Windows screen versus a Version 2.7 screen. Series 7 supports extra pages of screen information, however, so there should be no problem fitting the same information into Series 7.
The present version of Series 7 will only allow you to create screens that will fit on a 640 x 480 screen display. In practical terms this means screens will take up the full available area of a 14" monitor. An update to Series 7 will be made available shortly, that will allow you to take advantage of the maximum screen area of even 19" and 21" monitors. It should be noted, however, that if you design screens that take up the full display area of a 15", 17", 19" or 21" monitor, these screens will be uncomfortable for users working with smaller monitors. (Users with smaller monitors will have to scroll around the screen to see all of it, which will be tedious.)
A suitable rule of thumb is to design your screens to comfortably display on the smallest monitors in your firm, or consider updating your monitors to larger models. As mentioned, the first release of Series 7 forces you to design your screens so that they will still fit within the area of a 14" monitor. However, this restriction will be temporary.
The Screen Builder
You can change the lay-out of your screens from within the Screen Builder, found in INSTALLATION Workshop. To change your screens do the following:
Select Installation Workshop from your Windows Start menu. It is found in the Programs|Capital Office group.
Run the program INSTWIN found in your \CAPITAL directory.
If you are running CAPITAL Office already, select from the main menu Special|Installation Workshop...
Once INSTALLATION Workshop has started, type in your password (if you are prompted) and then move to the Build|Screen Builder menu. The following window will appear:

If you have created additional card files, these will also appear in the Card Files window.
Select the master screen or card file you wish to convert and press the Open button.
If the Screen Builder detects that you have added your own fields to the system, it will display a window advising you of this.
Your own fields will be placed on the last unused screen page. For Stock Control this will normally be Page 4. Click on the Page 4 button to view your custom fields.
At this point you will want to move your fields back to positions that more closely match their locations under Version 2.7. You can do this by cutting and pasting.
The procedure for cutting and pasting fields is as follows:
1. Click on the field you wish to move. A series of black "handles" should appear around the selected control like so:
![]()
2. From the menu select Edit|Cut. (Be sure the black handles are still around the field before you do this.)
3. Click on the page tab that you want to move the field to. If you wanted to move the field to the first page in Stock Control you would click on the Details 1 button.
4. From the menu select Edit|Paste.
5. The field will now appear on the first page, but it is unlikely to be at the location where you want it. You can move it by clicking on it with the mouse. Be sure that the black handles appear around the field to indicate that you have correctly selected it.
6. Hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse in order to position the field where you would like it. You can also move the field using the arrow keys.
7. Repeat steps 1-6 for each field you wish to move.
8. When you are happy with your changes, select File|Save from the menu to save the work you have done. However, do not do this until you have fully read all the information in this section.
You
can use the cut and paste technique to move fields from any page on your screen to any page you wish.
You can also remove unwanted fields by selecting them and pressing the DEL key.
If
you delete fields from your screens you may permanently loose the information stored in those fields!
The information will be lost in both Version 2.7 and Series 7. Therefore do not delete fields you are
not sure of. Move them instead to another page. It is strongly recommended that you make a back-up of
your system before you adjust your screens. Deleting fields may result in data loss!
Converting Card Files
Card file fields will remain in positions which approximate those of Version 2.7. However, because Version 2.7 screens are of a different scale to Series 7 screens, fields will appear packed together. You will need to use the mouse and your arrow keys to align them neatly. For complex card files you will probably need to split fields that no longer fit all within the one page, onto additional pages.
