Activate Fast Mode

When fast mode is unticked CAPITAL requests that all write buffers are flushed to the hard disk after each file or record unlock. This can be detrimental to network performance but the actual degree of speed degradation will be determined by many factors, including the version of the operating system installed.

If your network is reliable and well behaved, this option should be left ticked. However, if file corruption errors are reported by CAPITAL, this option should be left unticked until the cause of the problem is established and rectified.

generate/mistake1.gifgenerate/hardware1.gif Note To Network Users

Unticking this option will not solve your network problems--they will just reduce the chances of serious damage occurring. If your network is unreliable you will eventually experience data loss, even when fast mode is deactivated.

generate/hardware1.gif This setting has no effect on NT and XP clients. CAPITAL always operates in fast mode on these operating systems. However, you may change this behaviour via a special configuration setting. Consult the topic: Local Configuration Settings for more information.

Activate Transaction Log

Untick to disable CAPITAL's audit trail facility. This is not recommended, as it will not allow you to trace transaction changes and/or the users who changed those transactions (if the security file is activated). However, if the audit trail facility is turned off CAPITAL's transaction processing systems will run marginally faster.

generate/notepad2.gifCAPITAL Remote Replicator Users: If your company is registered as a web member the transaction log will always be active, irrespective of this setting. The audit trail file will always be maintained in order to provide CAPITAL Remote Replicator with the information it requires for data transfers.

Automatic File Save

The number of minutes to wait if there has been no keyboard activity before closing all file buffers and writing them to the hard disk. If set to zero, automatic writing is turned off.

Year-to-date Start Month No

The number of the month representing the start of the financial year. CAPITAL will base its year-to-date calculations on this setting. The default is July: month 7.

generate/notepad2.gif If 0 (zero) is specified, the year-to-date sales total on the customer and supplier status boxes, found on the customer and supplier accounts screens, will represent total sales since transactions were first entered into CAPITAL, not just from the start of the year.

If you change this setting for a company that already has transactions entered in it, you must run the Customer Account Recalculation utility for Customers and/or the Supplier Account Recalculation utility for Suppliers, to update the Year To Date totals for these accounts. These utilities are found on the Diagnose menu of INSTALLATION Workshop.

Year Date Range Warning

CAPITAL can be instructed to display a warning message if date entries are placed outside a year range. Enter "1" for one year (more than 365 days), "2" for two years, etc. The range warning is based on the system log in date. (Which, unless changed, is based on the computer's time/date clock.)

generate/notepad2.gif If 0 (zero) is specified, CAPITAL will not warn operators that their date entries are outside any acceptable range.

Due Date Default Day

For accounts set to 30 day terms the due date of customer and supplier transactions are set to the first day of the following month. This can be changed by entering another number here, such as 31. This would calculate the due date as the last day of the following month. If the month has less days than the number specified, the last day of the month is assigned to the due date.

generate/notepad2.gifIt should be noted that the due date of a transaction has no affect on the way the transaction is aged, unless the account is set to ageing by due date.

Modem Dial Prefix String

This string is inserted before the number to modem dial. This is useful if you need to obtain an external line by dialing out before the main number is entered. For example, if you have to dial 0 (zero) to obtain a free line before dialing the normal number, enter 0 here.
